The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) have released  a report on the above fire which regrettably resulted in the death of a firefighter.

The report covers considerable details on the incident and includes a number of recommendations.

There is a section relating to a fire risk assessment having been carried out but no indication if it was deemed suitable.

Thanks JayJay. A most informative and moving account. Another tragic loss of a firefighter on duty, sincere condolences to all family, friends and especially colleagues who must have been particularly hard hit by this incident. "There but for the Grace of God".

The Coroner's Concerns (section 5) at the rear strongly imply that the FRA's weren't up to scratch with Matter of Concern 9 regarding competency and it's easy to see why the fire developed and internal conditions deteriorated when you see the photo of the internal stair packed with stored goods either side.

Was there any enforcement action against the shop? Whilst FF's are not relevant persons it seems there were failings in the premises notwithstanding the issues on the FRS side.

Fortunately FF deaths are rare, but any death is one to many, a tragic incident.
