Title: Double beds in care homes
Post by: Robin on February 27, 2019, 08:04:36 PM
Hi
Just trying to clarify ADB about double beds in care homes
ADB says one bed per room, this includes a double bed
Does that mean that a couple can share a double bed or not
Regards

Let's take the fire safety out of this first -

QCQ standards dictate sizes of rooms and the space around a bed to allow staff to lift, carry out tasks etc. So very often this rules out double beds. I also had relatives who initially shared a room with twin beds but not double.

From a fire safety viewpoint, what are we trying to achieve? We need to be able to evacuate a zone within 2.5 mins (roughly). So is it so bad if we have single twin room in a care home to deal with the extremely rare occurrence when a husband and wife need care. Probably not proved you hav sufficient staff to evacuate the zone.

It comes from this

Sort of.

Dave is right - the subliminal message in ADB is that if Mr &Mrs smith have both survived into their 90s don't be a complete XXXXX and force them apart for reasons of fire safety.
