Title: Fire resistance of external fire door
Post by: GB on July 11, 2019, 04:28:40 PM
BS 9991 2015 requires the external wall of a sprinklered building over 18m to be constructed providing 60 minutes fire resistance.

Do all external doors need to provide the same period of fire resistance?

I have looked in Table 12 of BS 9991 and external doors could be deemed to be forming part of the enclosure of a protected lobby to a stair therefore FD30(s)

does anyone have a view on this?

BS 9991 2015 requires the external wall of a sprinklered building over 18m to be constructed providing 60 minutes fire resistance.

It's not quite that simple; the wall may or may not be fire resisting, and the exact recommendations depend on boundary conditions and whether the external wall is load-bearing.  Have a look in particular at Note G to Table 3 in the standard.

If the wall has to be 100% fire resisting then the external doorsets would need to be so, too.
