Prisoner transport firm GEOAmey replaced a broken fire alarm with a sign telling workers to ?shout fire, fire, fire? in a emergency.
A GEOAmey spokesman said the notice was a reasonable ?alternative measure? to a fire alarm.
Sign doesn't even comply with BS 5499 or BS ISO EN 7010.

I think someone must have been shouting that warning in this forum Owain, the place is empty!
But to your post, I guess as a temporary measure on its own, it wouldn?t be acceptable but at least better than the many instances where the so-called engineer has left the system disabled for weeks while waiting for a replacement part!

I was going to say that it very much depends of the size and layout of the building, then I read the report and looked at the photograph.
Somebody has got very loud voice for a shout of fire, fire, fire to be heard in that building.

At least they tried.....but that doesn't excuse the inadequacy of the temporary solution. I've had large buildings with systems falling down and kept occupancy, but usually had fire watches, walkie talkies, air horns, etc not just a sign and a shout!

Despite the potential inadequacy of the notice, I do think it's a good idea in all circumstances to shout fire, fire, fire, as it could reduce the time to respond to a purely electronic signal.
