Depends what you mean by good fire service movies steve??

If you mean totally unrealistic ones where the hero runs through flames with his tunic undone and an axe and his hand, or where the station has multi pump fires and life and death situations every day, then you can't go wrong with Ladder 49, Backdraft etc.

If you mean movies which really capture fire service life, then i'm afraid i've yet to find one!

Sorry i can't be of any more help mate.

Lee

Roxanne is quite realistic, apart from the size of Steve Martin's nose.

A realistic FS movie is an oxy-moron. By the time Hollywood has mauled it over it and added 'filmable' special effects and a cliche ridden story line, it's difficult to recognise any fire service origin

The most realistic portral perhaps was the TV movie - ie the original- London's Burning by Jack Rosental. (not the spin off crap series) despite 1 or 2 TV cliches, there are parts that were very close to the truth

Not sure whether it's available for sale/rent though

Why should fire service movies be any different. Machine gun ammo is heavy and runs out quickly. unless you are Arnold Swartzerthingy.

Lifeboatsteve,

You may find the documentaery being shown tomorrow(sunday) on channel 4 at 8pm on the Moorgate train disaster of some interest.

'If you go (through a huge hole in the floor of a burning warehouse), we all go'  became our watch motto for a while.
