IFE Fire register of risk assessors - what are the benefits?

I would like to know what benefits there are to an organisation encoraging their consultants to being on the register of fire risk assessors. I work for a consultancy with a number of fire risk assessors. At this time none of us are registered. Most of our clients do not appear to be aware of the register and even when they are aware have not used it in selecting a fire risk assessor. The register principally lists risk assessors by name rather than the company they work for. This has made my company question the benefit to them if we were to encourage our staff to register and pay their fees. The register does not enable a search for fire risk assessors who can provide a nationwide service. This makes it difficult for an organisation who have a nationwide operation.

What are the experiences of those who are on the register of fire risk assessors?

We have received numerous enquires directly from clients who have consulted the register.  When asked, fire brigades should be emphasising the importance of ensuring the competence of those commissioned to undertake a fire risk assessment, and suggesting the IFE (or IFSM) register is one way of finding those competent people.

Although listed by personal name, if the company is paying for the registration, it would seem fair for the company name and contact details are part of the entry.

I see your point regarding searching for nationwide coverage, though.  Perhaps the administrators of the register could look at this improvement?

Shaun, I am with Peter on this one. we have received a good level of business directly as a result of being on the register. If you cover the whole of the UK and/or international, you can state this in the box where you describe your services.

Only two replies!

This is not enough for me to be able to persuade my employers that there is a benefit to them of putting our consultants through to be registered. It does not help that when I did this with my last employer it took about a year to get one consultant through the process.

I am disappointed that no one from the IFE has responded.

I have looked into it and it does seem a long drawn out process, about time they simplified things imo
