Fire Brigade Interview
« on: January 01, 2007, 12:32:43 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I have an interview coming up in a couple of weeks for the Fire Brigade and was wondering if anyone has recently had an interview, and if so could you tell me what to expect, and give me any advice and tips that you could.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Steven

Ask the FRS what they are likely to ask. If they are following the new selction process the interview will be PQA based, so look at what you put on your original application.

Also pop into a couple of the stations in the FRS you are trying to join as there might be someone that has recently taken an interview to join.
Any views I express are my own and not my employers. Still confused!

They ask you the usual PQA based questions that have nothing realy to do with the job you are appling for but then all employers seem to ask this now as its the trendy way of selecting 'people'.

•   Working with Others
•   Confidence and Resilience
•   Commitment to Diversity & Integrity
•   Openness to Change
•   Effective Communication

Im sure there are examples on the net somewhere of what to say. One of the lads at our station who got asked these when he joined said he made up most of his answers with stuff they wanted to hear! Worked for him but im sure there are lots on this forum that would be horrified by this! The questions they ask are long winded and can be quite confusing so try and do a bit of research first.

ps. try not to laugh!

I srongly recommend www.fireservice.co.uk and their bulletin board/forum for recrutiment advice, loads of applicants and experienced Ffs post there.
My posts reflect my personal views and beliefs and not those of my employer. If I offend anyone it is usually unintentional, please be kind. If it is intentional I guess it will be clear!

I think this is probably the wrong thread to post on but never mind.

The DFS recruit nationaly now and have just done so. I dont know when they will be recruiting again. oportunities in the south west are few and far between. RAF St Mawgan is closing next year, RMB Chivenor has a small ammount of personnel and those from mawgan will probably fill jobs there.

Corsham, Wiltshire is the only other one I know that has just taken over from RAF. I wouldn't have thought they would have any vacancies. Best thing to do is to contact station managers at each station as they would be best to advise you.
