Fire Door Failure by Local Authority

Hi, I've just fitted a FD30 fire door in a HMO property. The guy from the council came round to check it and was very happy with the fit, apart from he failed it due to me shaving 1mm of each edge of the door. He stated that the council didn't allow any material to be removed, even though the manufacturer stated that 4mm could be taken off either edge.
Can the council fail a door that has been tested by the manufacturer to meet the 30 minute fire requirement with up to 4mm removed from each edge, just because the council have decided that no material should be removed. Surely the fact that the manufacturer has tested the door should be the over riding factor, not what the council think?

Agree with you pixxyco. Manufacturers spec stands good.
Was it a doorset or an upgrade of an existing frame with a new door leaf?

Be impossible to hang a door if you werent able to fine tune things.

Tell the manufacturer that the Council failed its door despite the fact that you did no more than what it said on the tin. That should get the phones ringing.

I fitted a new frame, door and all. The guy from the council said that no fire check frame manufactured at present when married with a door will meet the councils requirement - you'll have to remachine the frame!
Seems madness, if you can't shave the door to fit, then you'll machine the frame which must be just as bad.
Suprisingly, after posting I dicscovered an email from the council saying they have decided to accept the door as it is, but no other doors are to have any material removed.
What I find even more baffling is that the door manufacturers have tested their doors to ensure they meet the required standard, yet it is the council whom tell you what spec to fit the door to, even if this may invalidate the fire door certification - explain that one!

wonder how many officers and BCO still use the 2 taps...and are willing to issue a letter to state its a fire door!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    ?

Ironically in some cases it is better to have thinner lippings (hardwood edging strips) than thicker ones - gets the core closer to the frame which can be beneficial in some cases.
