Fire door sets in Schools, metal frames.
« on: March 12, 2008, 11:44:58 AM »
The existing fire doors have had the hinges welded to the steel door frame, doors take a hammering, heat and smoke seals are inserted within the door edge.  I assume welding the hinges was not part of the design test, however looking at the state of some of the fixings, welding is an improvement, especially with the beating they get.

So, I'm thinking, they will still do the job for the time it takes the school to evac, sufficient compartmentation is there to control fire loss to below 25%... with fire service assistance.

Anybody come across any objections to this 'upgrade'?

Sorry to come in late on this- are the doors also metal, or timber?

Cant see it being a problem as such- till the hinges wear and need replacing. Subject to hot work permit of course.

Maybe worth adding strips and seals too. Some fire officers are adamant that they should now be fitted even where you have good fitting doors with inch and a quarter rebates

Cheers for input folks.  Major refurbishment planned, so envisage doors to be replaced.

Interestly new 6th form block just handed over this week, fully sprinklered, heating for school supplied from 70m deep bore hole.

Shame the Argi Col wasn't sprinklered.
