« on: February 26, 2008, 06:07:27 PM »
This may have been discussed before and apologies if it has.

A client wants an auto dialer to ring him if he is away from his  Automatic Fire alarm protected building (L2 if you are interested) would a simple autodialler surfice, powered by a simple battery connected to the phone line or does it have to be a redcare or similar one with mains power and battery back up?

please could you give me advice

Regards Steve

If there is no specific requirement from the interested parties for a link to an arc, as could well be the case with a category L system, and the buildings owner/user would just like to have such a connection for their own particular purposes, then any type of signalling link will do - if the customer is happy with what he is being given! An autodialler is the cheapest option for off-site signalling (but can't be used to contact the emergency services). The next cheapest (and more reliable) option would be a standard digital communicator to an arc. The most expensive (and most reliable) would be a RedCare digital communicator link to an arc.

If you don't want to go to the bother of installing a power supply for the dialler you can install a little 24v -12v regulator (cost around £20) in the panel and use that to feed something like an SD2.

May be worth doing a quick battery calc just to make sure you haven't significantly reduced the batttery standby.
