the fire alarm draws milliamps in quiescent state and then maybe into amps if using lots of sounders etc but only for a brief duration during tests etc.

alot of hassle for something that is not a huge power user.

For now 'Yes', but the time is coming in just very few years you may change your mind Grame, the world economic crisis is deeply based on the use of Biofuels which sore up the food prices world wide, the oil prices too, I used to have full tank of diesel for say £50 now I have  to pay £100, in additions to none environmental ( 30 years old ) nuclear power stations that need investment of billions to renovate them (it has  to be from tax payer’s pocket obviously), also the instability of the middle east conflict which is fairly clear to every one, top it up with the climate change issue...  all of these and many others are really pushing the things to be though about before it will be very late...

We may miss to have fresh cold drink from the fridge or not watching TV at night, but not having a special care about power provision for fire alarm systems is a Red line isn't?

This is just my opinion

Well if sticking financially non viable PV cell and wind turbine on my roof will help save the planet inspite of the extra 250,000 odd planes expected when terminal 6 gets the go ahead, (assisted by half the old labour party sitting on the board of BAA), and the new coal powerstations going up in china every week then its a small price to pay....

(sorry not really the answer to the question just fancied a rant at the PC, green fingered, tree hugging, bio degradeable, ozone friendly brigade.....)

:D
Obviously No, but if every one and every sector does his bit why not. We may save the planet. Also there is still always some ways to do better :)
hmmm i think we should go back to wind up insulation testers too.... save on batteries......!!!

Nearly 20% of the green house effect is down to cows and old peoples flatulence..... are we gonna shoot them too, turn veggy and propogate the problem ???!!

(Ok made the last bit up) but in the big scheme of things, there is money in the green house effect for governments all over, otherwise it wouldn't be on the agenda..... you and I unplugging the tele at night might make you feel better but it won't make a jot of difference..... :)

I think we should go back to the traditional candles to light up the home or exercise with static bicycles to generate the required power of electricity for our homes.

If a giant company like EDF could not cope, and sets an increase of nearly 20% in electricity and gas, who could cope then? that would not make the public happy, unfortunately the incoming news are even worst.

It is just the similar transition was from coal to oil, now from oil to sustainable energy. Have we got any other choices?
