Firefighting Libya
« on: January 07, 2009, 10:41:36 AM »
Hi Folks,
Not many people seem to use the petro/chem forum (I have posted on there too), so excuse me for posting this in this section!!!!!  I am an ex-local authority firefighter and have just been offered a contract firefighting....feildbased in Libya.  I am after someone who maybe able to offer me some basic advice on what to expect!  If there is anyone out there who maybe able to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

If I was you, I would investigate the contract before moving there.  I know someone who took on a job in the middle east a few years ago, one day he turned up for work and was informed by his boss that in a weeks time, the boss's brother was having his job.  Remember that living abroad is not the same as here and it isn't all good.  People think of warmer climates and imagine living abroad is like being on holiday all the time, which it very rarely is for most.  I lived in Germany for just under 13 years and served 5 years in the German fire service, whilst I loved my time there and I still have great contacts there that I often visit, I'm still happy to be back home in the UK.

Hi kaiser........The contract was checked out before any pen was put to paper.  Regarding living abroad I am not in the UK and have been 'abroad' for quite some time now, and believe me it is much better than the UK and what it hasn't to offer.

There are 2 other chaps who are going to Libya with me, both ex-local authority fire officers.

Good luck then mate.  You might want to contact Andy Young who is the Dean of the fire service school in Muscat, Oman. I know it's not Libya, but he is ex UK fire service and used to be an instructor at Moreton in Marsh, he may have some tips about living in the middle east, he may also be a good contact for the future. Here is a link to the college website

If we put a web links for such opportunities, 'Chris' will delete them, he doesn't like advertising either for jobs or any other businesses in this forum, it's for info help only, by the way a quick googled search may give some insights...  :)

I thought Chris is 'good' with job stuff, just don't use t as a ploy to sell, or advertise your business...

All previously deleted links are purely for help, we are not getting directly or indirectly any single penny from them...

Just the way things have been setup...  :)
