Siteing of a fire alarm panel

For you fire alarm engineers I was wondering what your thoughts would be on the following.

I look after a large site on which I service the fire alarms.
Unfortunately they get an electrical contracting firm to install new systems etc. I am never allowed any input into this and generally find out when they start work.
They installed a new addressable system to replace an old minerva one in one of the buildings, and the new fire control panel was sited on the ground floor inside a storage area with a repeater on the outside of the building in a wooden enclosure with a perspect front. and a link to an alarm manager system in the security gatehouse.
The office etc is on the first floor accessed by an external staircase.

They then install a dirty great compressor unit, delivering 40 bar about 2 foot in front of the control panel.
After my complaints about working on the panel in close contact with the compressor, noise etc, they said they would resite the fire panel.

They did that this week.
Moved it temporarily to one side, cut a hole in the external wall, fitted a plastic box in it and put the panel inside.
No perspect door no labels etc.
So I have one main fire panel hidden in a box and accessable on the outside of a building in the rain,
One repeater in a wooden box with a clear opening door also on the outside.
one link to the gatehouse.
They said they had done it this way because they would have to rewire the system?

Well if it's the external repeater panel they have moved to one side, then they would only have needed to move (possibly) the mains supply, and possibly two cables if the repeater is on a loop, but more likely, a single four core cable.

So unless its a very fancy repeater with other outputs such as sounder circuits etc then it hardly means re-wiring the system....

Sounds like they couldn't be bothered.

Not sure if there is anything specific in 5839 but there will be in the electrical regs (7671) about selection and erection of equipment and suitability for the environment its in.... may be worth a look.

Is the repeater at the main entrance to the building or is there one in the gatehouse as well?
