fire suppression in pilot's cabin?
« on: August 25, 2005, 11:52:59 AM »
Have just heard a suggestion that the pilots who were overcome in the recent Helios airliner tragedy may have been subjected to some sort of fire(?) suppression system release below their seats and that it was this that knocked them out.

Is this credible?

fire suppression in pilot's cabin?

Although not by any means an expert on airplane fire systems as I understand it the only systems were fitted to cover the engines and similar spaces - all other areas are covered by portable extinguishers & unless they were having a sniffing competition with the Halon extinguishers these should not have been a problem.

Last thing I heard was that explosive decompression of the cabin KO'd/killed most people, the autopilot kept it level, & the fuel running out crashed it.

Only the official report will tell, until then everything else is speculation
