Wiz, no it wouldnt. Owen, the thinking was that the time to find out your batteries are shot is not when the fire has just taken out your mains supply in a non-fire rated cable. Thank you for your liking of my description of the fire alarm circuit. Thats one person who now understands. Only another 3467578598 people to go.

If it were red flex in a fire resistant conduit, would that not comply ?

Greg, the recommendation is not really about the colour (thats why I ignored your previous reply!) but about the fire-resistant integrity of the mains supply local to the the cie. The BS clarifies the standard of fire-resistance required of wiring. If you could prove that your solution was equal in fire resistance, then I'm sure it would be o.k. However wouldn't it be easier to just use the appropriate fire-resistant cable?
