Fire Engines Crash at Glasgow Airport
Posted 3 December, 2008
An investigation is under way after two fire engines crashed into each other at Glasgow Airport. The tenders were damaged, but colleagues who rushed to rescue the four emergency workers caught up in the crash were relieved to find they had escaped with cuts and bruises.
Flights were not affected as the crash, which took place yesterday, happened some distance from the runway.
An airport spokesman said: "Our investigation will include tests on the equipment involved."
The spokesman said none of the emergency workers required hospital treatment.
At one point the airport's "CAT" status - a rating that governs the size of planes allowed to land - was reduced because of the loss of emergency cover.
But it was quickly restored to its usual status when back-up vehicles and staff were deployed by the service, which is run independently by the airport's owner BAA.
