London Fire Brigade Medical
« on: April 23, 2009, 09:33:43 PM »
I had my medical yesterday, all went well but due to my childhood asthma I have been told I'll have to attend more tests at hospital.

Does anybody know or have heard anything regarding this process and whether or not being asthmatic affects my chances of starting the training part.

Bearing in mind this was never mentioned when I first applied in October 2008, spending over £100 getting to and from London, taking days off work to complete all stages of the selection progress

Any infomation will be greatly appreciated.

My understanding is you came this far they dont want to dismiss you as they would have done previously. They just want a more detailed account of extent of injury/disability. they have done the same for knee injuries and eyesight. On that note did you ahve to get a eye test done and then did they test you again.

I hope your right to the first part.

Yes i had to have an eye test which was signed off and a medical history record which was signed off by my doctor too.

Are you serving in the LFB?

Thanks. I would not worry they are covering themselves. Years ago people go kicked out for asthma. Now as long as aspecialist says you can do the job that will be fine. the reason I ask about eyes was a friend of mine has applied and they went for eyesight test but missed a copule on the colour blind bit. the optician said he didnt seeing being a problem for FF and i wondered if they tested your colour blindess again on the day.

I did have a colour blind check but not on the day.
