Hi, i am currently studying for a watch manager PQA Interview. Although i have my station officers tickets i have never attended a PQA based interview. Has anyone got any advice or examples of any PQA questions or answers that may give me a helping hand? i would be very grateful for any help.. cheers

Look at each PQA that they will use in the interview. If you don't know ask them as they should tell you as part of your planning and preparation. Each PQA think about and reflect when you did something at work that fits into that PQA. Then think what about whay you did it,why you did it and what were the learning outcomes from it.If you nothing fits from FRS yhink about your personel life or maybe prior employment. Try and get one of your examples to be a operational issue that you had. Good Luck

I've got a watch manager interview soon too, I've seen the term STAR used when answering PQA questions, can anybody explain what it stands for?

STAR stands for:

S - Situation - What was the situation
T - Task - What did you have to do
A - Actions - What did you (should be the biggest area)
R - Results - What happend as a result of your actions

I know thats how they want it for all those trying to get in as a Ff, don't know about Watch managers though.  Hannah Vallance does some really good workbooks that take you through the sort of detail you need for this type of question.  Good luck with your interviews.

Thanks for that, it's pretty much what I would have done anyway without even realising it.  I suppose using STAR must help you to focus on the relevant bits.

The STAR method is definitely a big help in focussing your answers on what they want as I found it was really easy to go of the point whilst trying to get the amount of detail in also.  Glad it was of help.

Dont forget the E at the end of STAR

EVALUATE
Any views I express are my own and not my employers. Still confused!
