BS3116 PART4
« on: February 27, 2009, 01:26:43 PM »
The BS3116 Prt4 fire detection control panels, what environments are they best used for, any brief info on these will be welcomed.

I ask, as I have come across one recently for a mixed use 4 storey building which has office and residential accommodation and retail units to ground floor.

Thanks

Must be an old system...

BS 3116:Part 4:1974  Specification for automatic fire alarm systems in buildings. Control and indicating equipment (Withdrawn 1988 & replaced by BS5839-4:1988)

Would be interesting to know who the panel is manufactured by... Certainly still a lot of very old systems around.

In terms of upgrade, unless they are not having any alterations to the system, I wouldn't have thought they would upgrade.  Although you should discuss the system with them, i.e. current standards etc and their options.

Being this old, you may find zonal circuits wired in T & E or another kind of non fire resistant cabling, which was perfectly normal then.

Thanks,

Was thinking the same, it is a gent system.

The office area is currently vacant and we will be discussing an upgrade with them. This would also ensure a link and appropriate audibility/alarm system to the residential flats.

Could also indicate to them spares are not available, as it would have been made obsolete etc...
