Iran Earthquake

An earthquake of 6.4-magnitude struck Iran just before 0330. The quake was centered near Zarand in Kerman province, 740km from the capital, Tehran. Around 500 people are reported to of been killed and many more injured. Casualties are expected to rise as rescue workers reach the province. Heavy rain is hampering rescue work. At 0800 the UKFSSART Coordinator was informed by DFiD in London that a decision on deployment was awaiting information from Iran.

At 11:30 the UKFSSART Coordinator received information via the Department for International Development from the British embassy in Tehran that the Iranian Government would not be requiring the assistance of international search & rescue teams.
