New book from the BSI
« on: June 16, 2009, 12:17:31 PM »
Thinking of buying the following book from the BSI- at £75 per copy I thought I check to see if any one has bought it and if you would recommend it for the professional fire risk assessor?

BIP 2112:2006 The audit of active fire safety systems. Practitioner's assessment and approval procedures manual

A very brief summary can be seen on the BSI Global website.

Anyone bought it and would care to rate it please?

Kurnal, You will be pleased to know that I wrote this for enforcing authorities in Northern Ireland, who found it so useful that, in 2006, I adapted it for the UK market and it is published by BSI under an agreement between them and the Northern Ireland Fire Safety Panel, with whom I share the rights.
It is really intended for people who need to check active fire protection systems for approval purposes, such as fire and rescue authorities and building control bodies, but is useful for anyone who, say, has to do system acceptance. I am not sure that fire risk assessors would need the level of detail it contains. Before you spend an amount equivalent to 6 hours at your hourly rate, I can let you see a copy next time we meet, so you can taste and try before you buy.

That is indeed a kind offer Colin. I will look forward to it. Now can I rely on your short term memory with your advancing years or should I remind you closer to the date?

I was particularly interested in it in respect of gaseous suppression systems from the risk assessors point of view. I find so much variance in standards of installation and with seperate standards for each and every extinguishing media at my hourly rate I cannot afford to keep on top of them all.

You will need to remind me.  Again, it depends on the level at which you wish to audit gas systems.  You may need to revert to the ISO standards of you want to check calcs etc
