Ladies and Gents,

I post this invitation at the request of it's author, a work colleuge of mine:

Invitation to Arson Combated Together (ACT) briefing day Friday 3 June 2005

In 2000, Arson Combated Together (ACT) was launched to UK secondary schools. The tour included a Theatre in Education production, workshop and Teachers’ Resource, that aimed to educate about the risks of arson and arson prevention techniques.   Provided by Zurich Municipal, ACT was available free to schools in specific arson ‘hot-spot’ areas.

We are really pleased that evaluation of ACT has shown some very positive results, including a clear fall in incidents of arson.  ACT in Nottingham alone saw a 20% decrease in insurance claims for arson related damage to schools in the area.

Last month we introduced the next stage of the programme - the ACT Tool Kit, which was sent out to all Fire and Rescue Services.

The ACT Fire Service Tool Kit is supported by the Arson Prevention Bureau (APB), the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA), the ODPM-led Arson Control Forum and the National Community Fire Safety Centre (part of ODPM).

The aim of the ACT Tool Kit is to provide a comprehensive, detailed and informative resource for Fire & Rescue Services that will enable them to co-ordinate their own ACT educational programme.

We would like to invite you to attend a briefing session to enable us to pass on knowledge, experience and materials so that you can easily manage and run this tried and tested programme dealing with arson.

The briefing will include:
•   An outline of how ACT fits with other initiatives
•   An overview of the problem
•   An overview of the ACT Tool Kit, why it works, options available
•   A chance to ask questions and share experience

Date:       Friday, 3 June, 2005
Location:                   Fire Service College, Moreton in Marsh
Time:      1000- 1500
Next steps:   If you would like to attend the ACT briefing day, please contact Mark Leigh at mark.leigh@odpm.gsi.gov.uk

It would be appreciated if attendance could be kept to two people form each FRS.

We hope you will find the ACT Tool Kit a valuable tool in combating arson and we look forward to working alongside you in the future.

Yours faithfully,
