Essex Fire Service Legal Conference
« on: July 06, 2010, 10:20:18 AM »
A special legal conference will examine the increasingly contentious issue of how the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order has and is being enforced.

The third ECFRS Legal conference will hear experts from the legal and fire worlds about how they consider the Fire Safety Order should be enforced.

Roy Carter, ECFRS Legal Advisor, said: “Since the Order’s introduction there has been extensive commentary and debate about the correct use of this piece of legislation. We have also seen a variance in respect of enforcement of the Order across the country.

“This conference gathers experts from all sides of the debate, including lawyers, academics and fire officers from local authority, commerce and industry.

“This event will provide an opportunity for all stakeholders to examine the major issues regarding fire safety enforcement and the the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.”

Speakers on the day include:
- Richard Matthews QC – an expert in the field of fire and health and safety
- Andy Jack – head of Regulatory Enforcement at London Fire Brigade
- Professor Rosmarie Everton – Barrister and a principle figure in fire law academia
- David Stotesbury – barrister and a leading figure in fire law
- Hilary Ross – Solicitor and partner at Bond Pearce specialising in health and safety
- Eleanor Sanderson – barrister with significant expertise in fire safety related matters
- Group Manager Brian Neat and Andy Stapleton – fire & rescue service managers with the remit of managing and developing fire safety enforcement
- Andy Mattock – B&Q, commercial fire safety manager

Tickets for the event are low cost at £95 (plus VAT). More information is available from the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service’s website at www.essex-fire.gov.uk.
