Fire Exit Keep Clear-yellow boxing
« on: February 14, 2011, 04:44:59 PM »
You have a final exit door leading to the outside, is there any guidance as to how big the yellow cross hatching should be? Or is it a case of as big as needed to cover the swing path of the door?

thanks

I haven't seen any guidance, but I would stick at as big as necessary and cut the bit about the swing door. My reasoning behind this is if car parking is involved you may want the hatching to extend all the way beyond a car length to stop people blocking the exit route without impinging on a small yellow box.
The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to those who think they've found it.

Markings can be ignored! So there is also the need to consider a more positive enforcement of the yellow hatching by posts, kerbs or a raised pavement if the hatching doesn't work.
