National Older Persons Strategy

CFOA have published their National Older Persons Strategy for consultation link below -

The aim of this strategy is to provide guidance and support to Fire and Rescue Service’s and their partners to enable them to rise to the challenge of keeping the older and more vulnerable members of our community safer from the risk of injury and death as a result of fire in the home.

After I saw they got the total number of deaths in dwellings completely wrong by miles on the first page, it lost all credibilty for me so I didnt bother reading any further.

CT its a draft document, if its incorrect get it changed anyway I would be surprised if Scotland doesn't have a better one.

Just looked at the CLG website and yes there does seem to be some differences in the numbers. Problem is the document does not reference any of the statistics used. So who knows who is right.

Tam,  Even in a draft, one might expect people to have a handle on the figure for annual fire deaths. It is so commonly quoted and known most of us could rattle it off without needing to check the UK fire statistics, which are the only authoritative source and so are as right as you can get.

Colin I don't disagree with you, but your response could be said to be a knee jerk reaction or shooting from the hip which are actions you have criticised in the past and a full well measured informative response to the draft would be far more productive.

Tam, I havent time to comment on the document, and in any case I genuinely did not bother reading past the bit that said that magically annual fire deaths had dropped below 300.  Anyhow, I take the view that CFOA know best as it is full of older persons with stategies of achieving grandeur before they need false teeth.
