Waste Containers in Healthcare

The 2011 guidance on safe handling of waste refers the reader to Firecode Part F regarding fire retardency. General guidance is that all waste bins should be metal with lids but with a provision that other fire retardant materials may be acceptable.
What are being used elsewhere in UK? I am particularly concerned with wheelie bins, and general waste bins in Ward areas.

The only metal bins I'm aware of in a hospital are the normal general waste type bin of various sizes.

the large wheelie bins shouldn't be allowed in a ward should they? they are ok on the hospital street as long as it is 'work in progress' ie the waste porter hasn't gone off for their dinner and that the bins they are lockable. The waste porter should be grabbing the waste bags off the wards/departments and putting them in the wheelie bins outside of the ward and then taking them away
