This used to be a problem when Maglocks &  hold opens were first introduced. It was necessary to release them overnight or they would become permanent magnets. I was under the impression that the technology has moved on and its not really an issue any more.

As wee brian has said magnetic hold open devices was a problem years ago but laminating and using modified iron cores seems to resolved the matter.
All my responses only apply to England and Wales and they are an overview of the subject, hopefully it will point you in the right direction and always treat with caution.
