Assembly building staircase
« on: August 30, 2017, 06:21:31 PM »
Looking at ADB, page 45 Table 6. It states that "In an assembly building and serving an area used for assembly purposes (unless the area is less than 100m2)" The maximum number of people served by the stair must not be more than 220.

This seems pretty restrictive; so no more than 220 people in the whole staircase irrespective of the number of floors, have I got this right?

Thanks Steve

Hi Steve,

You can certainly read it that way but it is not what it means.  What it means is, if you have no more than 220 people using a stair then the minimum width of the stair should be 1100mm.  If you have a stair serving more than 220 people then item 1c sends you to Table 7.

There are many parts of ADB that are difficult to understand what is meant without having someone explain.

Thanks Phoenix, I thought I must be wrong to read it like that.
