Services passing through FF Shaft
« on: August 24, 2021, 04:53:40 PM »
BS 9999 clearly states ?Only services associated with the firefighting shaft should pass through or be contained within the firefighting shaft?, however, I'm sure I have read somewhere that if a service is boxed in or separated from the shaft by 120-minute fr construction then it is considered to be outside the ff shaft. Can anyone either correct me or guide me to where it does say it.
Many thanks in advance.

My interpretation of 20.2.3 is that services serving other parts of the building can pass through the fire-fighting shaft providing they are appropriately protected, 120min from the inside of the service shaft and 60 min from the fire-fighting shaft side. No access panels are permitted. In that regard, such service shafts can be considered to be outside the fire fighting shaft.

Thanks Lyle. That was my interpretation too but I have had something knocked back by an AI because I have ventilation trunking enclosed by 120-minute fr construction running through the FF shaft.
