Laboratory Travel Distance

Can anyone tell me which purpose group a chemical/biological research laboratory used by post-graduate students falls into?  I can't find any useful references specific to labs; in particular which labs should be classified as special or high hazards, BS5588 mentions labs but doesn't seem to indicate a purpose group, it's appropriate travel distances that I'm trying to pin down.

On the assumption that it is not a teaching establishment, I would suggest that it could be considered to be Purpose Group 6 (Industrial) as research is most likely to involve processing an article.

The benchmark travel distance would therefore be 25m. You may wish to reduce drastically if your assessment identifies hazardous chemicals or reactions are likely to be present!

Best of luck,

Barry
