Fire Doors - Swing both ways

I am pretty sure I know the answer, or at least think I know the answer, but is it possible for fire doors to swing both ways, the location is access door to a kitchen.

Personally I don't think so as you can not ensure that a good seal will be made by the expanding strips (sorry can spell intumesicient).

I think you can do it if you use a decent floor spring, which can be adjusted to ensure the door rests in the right place. If you want a practical answer try talking to Lynne Parry at the ASDMA she will probably be able to point you to a suitable product.

It's perfectly possible to get fire resisting doorsets that work in 'double swing' mode.  Some words of caution, though...

Use floor springs, not the hinges with springs in them (sometimes called 'bomber' hinges), 'cos they don't tend to work very well on fire doors;

If new doors, check the technical details in the manufacturer's literature to make sure they're 'certified' as double swing (may also be called 'double action');

Don't try and fit floor springs to chipboard doors unless they've got a timber frame in the leaf - you'll end up with them splitting at the pivot points.

Yes you can as I maintain as number of sheltered schemes that have doors on mag holders on both sides
