Patol linear heat detector cable
« on: August 28, 2006, 08:01:43 PM »
I am a fire alarm service technician, but i only came across this stuff once, on a fault call. Basically does anyone know how to test and diagnose faults on these systems? The website for patol is very good, but it gives no info on how to test, isolate etc..

I would recommend that you contact them to check as some are"one shot" or non-resettable and should not be tested with heat. They can only be inspected mechanically and electrically.

Other types can be tested with heat source in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.

Check with them and follow their guidelines. You will have to ask for their technical department.

Thanks for reply. I will contact tech help. I was thinking more in terms of testing linear detectors showing a fault, as far as i know they are only monitored fo o/c or s/c,  ie. does infinite resistance trigger an o/c fault or is it above a specified value that a fault is triggered, or is zero resistance required to activate s/c. (The system I am looking at shows a fault in zones where the detectors have been knocked out of t-clips by moving of furniture etc. Is this enough to generate afault?)
