Are you asking about how to register a fire appliance? Or where you can find out about current fire appliances and/or preserved ones?
('Appliance' is the preferred term in the UK to 'engine', by the way.)

Information on current fire engines can be found in several ways:
'The Fire Brigade Handbook' - 5th ed - published by British Bus Publishing in 2004 - updated at irregular intervals.
Join 'The Fire Brigade Society' - see www.thefirebrigadesociety.co.uk.

For preserved appliances again the Fire Brigade Society or the Fire Service Peservation Group. (www.firespg.freeserve.co.uk)
Both of these are national bodies. The FBS has a good quarterly publication 'Fire Cover', the FSPG a simpler monthly newsletter. Both have local groups round the country. The FBS organise visits to local authority and industrial brigades, the FSPG is often involved in rallies for preserved appliances.
There are also other useful links on this website.

I would like to get in touch with the owner of preserved 1956 Dennis F 101, as I have a few photos taken of this machine in 1964.  At the time I was a firefighter at B24 Homerton (this was the station number in LCC days) before I emigrated to Australia, and eventually New Zealand

Dear Mike,
Suggest you contact both FBS & FSPG - see my post #3 above for details. I also think there is an association for retired London firefighters; have a look at the London Fire Brigade site - link available from the FireNet Home page.
