Wee Brian
Who were the Licencing authorities- the courts?
The Licencing act is still enforce, FSO still inspect under public safety

Val & Pip
There is a wind of change, is it to late? I don't know
I remember listening to a certain barrister at Morton many years ago
who stated use the legislation or lose it.

licensing authorities- for liquor used to be courts, then local council, for entertainment eg music ,dancing etc is local council, for marriage licence  (in my case) County council. The fire 'bit' for all of these now enforced by fire authority.
is it too late?no-because if the government wanted to remove from fire authority have had plenty of opportunities-but that does not mean It might never happen! Two things have happened recently(at least in my area)-the FSO making it easier to enforce and the change in attitude by senior management having the will to enforce more often  (and be prepared to go to court and risk losing-but not at all cost of course)

Pip - I'll believe it when I see it. Most of the Fire Authorities I have been dealing with are cutting fire safety staff, just when their jurisdiction has increased!

If your authority is different then thats good.
