the cause of data corruption ?????
« on: May 06, 2007, 06:08:27 PM »
Hi all;

What makes an analogue addressable system loses its program such as text location and other settings i.e. some auxiliary 'fault relay' was programmed as 'fire relay'. And after data corruption, the relay went back to its default state which is a fault relay?

As far as I know the radio system of EMS could lose the program (text location and settings...) when you warm start the system, but other hardwired analogue addressable systems have not got that option have they? So what are the fundamental causes then?

even the system was not down powered at all

Thank you

Earth faults are a common problem on loops,i have also found faulty loop devices to cause weird things but is the relay you are talking about in the panel?

I may have been something simple as you changed it all on the PC but did not download it,to the panel.

what panel are we talking about?

Yes, it happened to me with ‘Advanced’ panel recently, and few years ago with JSB addressable panel, also the relays I am talking about are internal ( at PCB level ), the factory setting is that one of them is fault relay and the other one is fire relay (case where only two auxiliary relays / PCB). But, they can be programmed to operate whatever as fire relays or fault relays.

I remember the week when data corruption occurred, it was some builders work in the building and they caused open circuit in one of the loops which we knew about, and that fault caused the extractor smoke vent to operate, because it was linked to a relay that went back to its initial setting (fault relay) when the settings and the program had been lost.

strange one. Was the memory locked at the time of the fault?

yes the memory was locked, also the problem was sorted out after uploading the program to the panel, as I always keep a back up in my laptop.

we had some other cases where the system is a morley ZXe with earth fault for ages, but we have never ever lost the program and the settings due to that earth fault, I do agree that it depends of each system, how is it designed to overcome earth fault problems... but the one happened with Advanced panel was really strange
