graham,
speaking from experience of going through the physicals before with LA  i would make sure you can complete the bleep test(level9/10) comfortably. something you can build to gradually through running with sprints. In terms of hose running, ba tests etc.  i would just make sure your stamina and arm and leg strength are reasonably good. i.e not tiring too quickly.  im thinking of going running with ankle and wrist weights and stair work in addition to gym work. ba test... again stamina and determination. actually very enjoyable part.  hope this helps.

Graham, you need to do sprint work with some cones spaced about 10 metres apart. If you use 4 cones and do 10 sprints per cone with a jog back to the start. This will increase your VO Max to a level in which you can pass any fitness test. Weights wise, you need to keep at a light weight with high reps, also keep your rest periods short. This work out should last about 40 mins for weights and 30 mins for the sprints. Do weights one day and sprints the next day, dont forget to have rest days!!! I hope this works for you and good luck.

Thanks Mark i've been doing 100m sprints then taken 1minute to jog back.Been building these up slowly started with 4 and have been working up.
As for weights i've been doing press ups and getting 2 chairs and lowering myself up and down between.Alot of reps between the two.
I'll step my training up if i get through

                                                         Thanks for the advice Mark

I'd start drinking heavily down the pub as well. That was the biggest shock when I finished my training course and got posted

Graham, from past experience, concetrate on the bleep test\ chester step test, hose running (6 lengths in 8 minutes), casualty carrying 30kg over 50metres and Breathing Apparatus (Confined Spaces). Ladder asend\desend.

We had to do a leg lock at the top of a 13.5 (vertigo)
Ba with nappy on the visor through a rat run, fitting through little holes and opening doors (enclosed space)
Wire a plug (manual dexterity)
50kg dummy firemans lift over 50m (strength)
3 interviews

And then start training.
