Sounder level reduction within an area with offices

Benzerari my service engineer has been asked to reduce the sounder levels with an area with 3 enclosed offices. Should he have-after performing his task, activate the sounders and take DB levels in accordance with the BS????. I know the answer but do you??

If the offices are within a general area and are less than 60m2 then you can drop to 60dB within them.

You can't adjust fire alarm warning device volume controls without taking a db reading afterwards to ensure sound levels still comply with the recomendations.

Of cousre we know the answer it's common sense.

Why ask if you already know?

p.s do you know what setting to have the dBA meter, what way and how to point it,the size of border round a room that can be ignored, points of limited extent etc etc.

I know the answers but do you?

Graeme, please explain which way you point the meter and how. (for my part you can ignore explaining the other items). Also, on what reference, do you base your explanation of which way and how you point it. Thanks.

Sure Wiz

just the basics that is not always done. These might insult your intelligence.

1) Use meter on slow response and A weighting.
2) Point microphone at source
3) Hold meter well away from body at one side
4) keep still and quiet
5) Shut all the doors

Thanks for this Graeme.

Point 1 is in BS and the others are pretty obvious, although points 2 & 3 are only really important if the initial reading appers to be too low!

I must admit that I was hoping for a more 'High-Tech' explanation that I could use to impress my apprentice fire alarm wizards with, but I appreciate that we all learn only by being given good advice by those in the know. I am sure your explanation has provided a useful insight to others in this home for the slightly bewildered!
