Isolating fire alarm system in unused building
« on: July 07, 2008, 04:32:42 PM »
Hi I have just had a vist from my local fire station about unwanted call at my Hospital ,the main problem is in a building that has been empty for at least  years have water damage from a leaking roof and as far is known we have no plans to refubish, can we isolate the fire alarm system to stop the unwanted calls.or would that cause problems with insurance ect.
P.S the site is only operational 7-7 monday to Friday.

I don't understand how the site can be "operational" and "empty" at the same time.  But the only person who can tell you if your insurer will be happy will be......your insurer (or broker).

Most insurers would expect unocupied buildings to be inspected regularly, appropriate services to be isolated (water, gas, electricity - except to safety/protection systems).  If I were your insurer I'd also be telling you to keep the place wind and water tight if you were expecting us to make good any weather peril losses.

Due to amount of squatters , vandals and god knows what else , I would think the fire system should stay on , especially if you have guys doing a walk around .
I know the old business rates have gone for an empty building , that's why the demo boys are flat out at the moment.
Its time to make a counter attack !
