Looking to join the fire service
« on: May 22, 2008, 03:10:23 PM »
Hi All,

I'm a sports science student and im very close to finishing my degree. I've decided that I would like to be a firefighter but I have been finding it very difficult to find any information on the subject. I'm finding it particularly hard to find job vacancies. I'd be very interested if anybody could tell me the process involved. I have managed to find this guide on becoming a firefighter

http://www.how2become.co.uk/viewProduct.php?product_name=Firefighter

but am unsure of its quality. Have any current serving firefighters read it or had any help from it when going through the recruited.

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated,

Sam

Hi Paddy

My advice would be to go down to your local fire station and talk to the firefighters there - Im sure they would be happy to chat to you and give you some friendly advice and a bit of insight into the job.

www.fireservice.co.uk publishes fairly up to date info on which brigade is recruiting as does www.cfoa.org.uk

Unfortunately I havent seen the how2become guide but perhaps some other peeps here have.

Hope this helps

Hello,

Yeah as the previous message states - the 2 websites mentioned are the best for finding out current recruitment drives.
Also its worth looking at the seperate brigades websites for recruitment details - also looking in the local press.

As far as the How2Become CD goes - the only one I have seen is the one that is purely focused on the interview process - I found this very helpful in passing the interview.
