Lothian and Borders Recruitment Interview
« on: January 19, 2008, 03:58:18 PM »
Hello,

I have an interview in a couple of weeks for Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade.
Does anyone know the structure of the interviews for this brigade and the sorts of questions they may ask??

Many thanks everyone.

Sorry if this is a bit late, but maybe it can come in handy for someone else.

I was interviewed in a small office by a board of no more than two persons, and they were both superfriendly. You will be asked to give them examples from times when you were in situations where you had to deal with certain circumstances.

You were given some information with the invitation to the interview. That info is pure gold. Those specific circumstances are in there. Match the question areas to the pqa-descriptions that are in the application pack, or on http://www.fireservice.co.uk/recruitment/pqa.php Here's an example:

If you are to be questioned on Confidence and Resilience, you'll find the criteria stating: "Maintains a confident and resilient attitude in highly challenging situations. Remains in control of own emotions during emergency situations, does not panic and considers risk. Concentrates on the task despite pressure" etc.

So start thinking about a time when you were in a situation that corresponds to as much of the criteria as possible. Like the letter says, make sure to include in the story how you contributed to a successful outcome. Find a story or two for each area that will be questioned.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Have just been accepted in to L&B today, absolutely delighted. Hopefully I'll get to do my training etc soon, really can't wait. Can only agree with whats said above with regards to the interview. The letter you receive is what you need to work on. Come up with examples and experience you have in each area and it will help ... ALOT!

I was extremely nervous before my interview, but it was really relaxed, and the 2 interviewers were superb! Really good guys! SO RELAX!

Only took about 30-35 mins in the end, and I was relatively confident I'd done well enough after it. Just glad I did!

Can't wait to get started. As you can maybe tell, I'm rather hyper about it!

Were you accepted Cal?

Hey,

Thats amazing that you got through your interview. Unfortunately I didnt get passed the interview, I requested some feedback and they have an extremely high standard for the interview so you should be very proud that you got through that stage.

I know what I need to work on for the next time.

Well done again Jambo

After the interview I thought to myself that if I hadn't been successful, I would have used the experience gained to put me in good stead for next year. So good luck for next year rp. Getting from about 2500 potential recruits down to 130 is a great achievement in it's own!
