Forces medical discharge

Hi,
    I'm currently in the Royal Marines but broke my leg in 2006 which has meant I may be unfit for full marine duties and that I could be medically discharged. I'd been looking into the fire service long before my injury but I've now heard rumours that a medical discharge means I won't be able to join. I'm still fit and capable of doing most marine physical training however the job requires carrying hugely heavy equipment for long distances over rough ground and this is where my problems occur.
I've contacted brigades and done plenty of research but I haven't found any specific information on this.  I was hoping that someone could tell me whether it is possible to join even after a forces medical discharge providing I can pass the required fitness tests and medical.

Hi salty, i am unsure about the case regarding medical discharge but there are certainly firefighters who have got into the service following injury (myself included)

 Your best bet is to see what happens with the marines (as you say that you may be unfit, but this has yet to be decided - it may not be the case) and take it from there.

 If you are discharged then apply to the service you want and begin the process. If you get to the medical stage (which is normally the last) then the Doc will make that assessment at that time. Getting through the selection stages should stand you in good stead as it will display you are capable.
