Design of tower blocks of flats post war
« on: July 19, 2008, 05:10:04 PM »
I am trying to understand the original  fire safety design strategy for a 17 storey block of flats built in 1963. The earliest version of CP3 Part 1 that I have access to is the 1971 version. This document refers to earlier versions that it replaces but does not mention any dates of publication.

Plase can anyone cast any light on this- when was CP3 part 1 first published? I know there was a part 3 dated 1948 which implies there was probablly a part 1 current at the time?

And which version would have been current in 1963 and finally- does anybody know where I may access a copy?

Kurnal
I have just been having a quick look on the inside front cover of BS 5588-1:1990, it makes reference to the following:-
First Published as CP3: Chapter IV, 1948
Second edition as CP3:Chapter IV Part 1, October 1971
I will continue searching to see If I can help you find a copy. Hope the above is of some use to you

Thanks Ricardo
If we can find a copy of the 1948 version then many of our friends on the forum would be forever grateful.

Kurnal, this is exactly the sort of thing to include on your publications forum you suggested,- publication needed - site or access point/link or where to buy.

According to BS you won't get a new copy as it is out of print. You will have to find a code hugger. It might be in his desk draw.
