The Institution of Fire Engineers on Facebook

Dear Colleagues,

The IFE has decided to go ahead with our foray into the facebook universe.

Our intention is to use this technology as an innovative conduit into areas that we do not currently reach well; there are thousands of young people, student groups, informal engineer societies and fire fighter pages on facebook. At the moment many of them are unaware of who we are and what we can do for them.

To test the theory I recently joined my local fire brigade web pages and some interested individuals from said pages have in turn joined the IFE page. One outcome was that a systems technician from the United Arab Emirates made inquiries about our services, and is now quite interested in attempting the Graduate exams. Up until now he was under the impression that one could only study IFE courses via day collage on Omar, and was quite surprised to hear about our correspondence courses.

With the correct management, and involvement of our members worldwide, we could possibly achieve a facebook membership in the thousands; the potential for increasing our membership is obvious, will promote the aims of fire engineering and lead to financial gain.

To this end we are now in the process of trying to build up a critical mass, make people aware of whom we are and the interests that we promote. The group is no longer a closed group and all are now most welcome to join.

Please ask your local members to join the facebook page and for them to invite appropriate facebook friends for invitation to become members of the group. Once this happens hopefully we can start robust discussion, read new opinions and discover different approaches towards Fire Engineering. Some of these invitees may well end up joining the Institute, increasing the influence of the IFE as a whole and ultimately benefit us all.

We are very interested in related disciplines, the architects, draftsmen and engineers that you may know of on facebook would be most valuable. Emergency services are of course at the core of all Fire Engineering, so please invite all those brave men and woman you know who ‘put the wet stuff on the red stuff’………

A couple of pictures would also be lovely, other suggestions are most welcome.

My thanks for your time, and I hope to chat to you in the future.

Thanks, although it is unfortunate that the link quotes the "sorry the site aint working perfectly" message at the top, I hope it updates when we get things fixed.
