Problem connecting to Morley Fire 5 Panels

Hi,

Just have bought a new Dell laptop running windows XP (with dual boot for running dos on startup). When trying to connect to a fire 5 panel, I can not establish a connection. I have tried connecting to a fire 5 panel using fire 6.12 and I can connect to the panel and download the information ( so the lead is good).

My previous laptop had windows 98 and was able to connect and had no problems. I have tried installing a virtual drive and still no joy. I think it could be something to do with the laptop speed / communications speed.



Has anyone else have this problem or does anyone have a solution.

Check your download info , as you might see you have corrupted information , in relation to device types.
I still use a old p.c bought from the pawn shop for the old dos panels , works for me.

Windows XP does not have true MS-Dos so you'll find that fire 2,3,4 and 5 will be an issues as will any other dos program.

you have 2 choices.

1. By an old laptop with windows 95 or 98 on it and use this.

2. partition your hard drive and make a dual boot machine. 1 with XP and another with ms dos.

I've also had this issue but the above should help.

I have a partitioned hard drive with dos as C Drive & XP as my d drive.

I have tried to run fire 5 from dos but I still have the same problem ( No reply from panel....)

Would it make a difference if i change my comm 1 port speed

Please forgive me if Granny sucking eggs comes to mind but is the network address of the panel that you are working  on set right?
Check your comm speed as the baud rate may be running too fast.

No.As with the old Minerva CONSYS or KIDDE Scamp programs they only run on true DOS via the the serial.
Windows 98 with a DOS partition utilizing a utility like Partition Magic was the best solution - not sure what the issue is/was with XP machines.

Dont you have to replace the processor chips in the panel to get fire 6 software to communicate, I know we had to replace them on a panel but cant remember exactly why.

according to Morley but one of our guys programmed up ZX-5e's using fire 5 that should have been done on 6.
I too have programmed Zxa's installed on early fire using Fire 6.
