Upgrading and extending existing fire alarms!
« on: June 14, 2009, 08:02:49 PM »
My clients sites have finally had risk assesments done, and highlighted the need to extend into flats and increase audibilty! Just confirms what i had already told him but the risk assesment makes this obligatory.

I would like your kind thoughts into extended existing systems, communal conventional systems, which require detectors and sounders in flats. Client wants to avoid cabling if possible. My first idea was upgrading panel and detectors using the Hybrid Hyfire...... but am i correct in saying there is a protocal issue here.... Hyfire panel software do not support the zone monitor?

Many thanks in advance.

Upgrading to Hyfire, would replace the control panel to analogue addressable and replacing the existing devices for analogue addressable.

In theory you could mount zone isolators at the control panel and run the existing cabling as spurs from this.  The cable will be entirely monitored as will the devices.  Obvioulsy if you get a short circuit on a zonal cable or an open circuit, the devices after that fault would go missing or indeed the entire zone, but this is what you'll be getting now anyway.  And if this happens the fault will be indicated back at the control panel.

Translators could be positioned where required on the loop and radio devices provided within the flats.

We've done a few of these swap outs now using the hybrid systems and once you get your head round them they're bloody good.

As said by Mr Fella.... you can do all sorts.... have the old conventional zones become analogue spurs, have the old sounder circuits become analogue spurs if you change the sounders..(or use loop sounder bases and do away with teh sounders etc..)

In this way you get far more flexibility where you can mount your translators...

You just need to be careful and think about how many devices/area you might lose on a single cable fault if you have lots of translators connected to a spur for example...

Kentec is the only panel at the moment supporting the radio kit but Advanced are bringing out a panel in a month that will fully support all the functionality of the hybrid kit which the syncro doesn't....

There is another manufacturer which we work with sucessfully using the Hyfire equipment, for which we primarily used for the introduction of Hyfire when we introduced it into the UK market, although as David previously said, other manufacturers have now successfully adopted the protocol with us, and is working fine.

Just make sure whoever you adopt to produce quotations fully understands the system and carries out a radio integrity survey of the building to determin quantity of translators/expanders to ensure the system will function correctly.  They should do this as part of their quotation for you.

If you want to go down the route of the Hyfire system private message me.

If using the Hyfire on a Kentec panel you will be using the Argus Vega protocol so the XP95 protocol won't work in this situation
