10kg Co2 trolley Extinguishers
« on: December 21, 2009, 03:35:05 PM »
hi, an op directive came out in 2007 regarding the servicing of 10kg Co2 trolley extinguishers. the lances are sent away to chubb where they are repainted, tested and sent back with a refirbushment date on. My question is, what is the time scale that the lance can last for??

for example

say i got a lance with a refirbushment date of April 09, and i attach it to a 10kg Co2 trolley for initial service December 09. Now in december 2010 that extinguisher will need to have an annual / basic service, and the lance sent away to chubb. But the lance by my understanding is only serviceable for 1 year. where as the example above it will be 18 months old. Can anyone shed any light on this please, i cant get an answer out of people and people at my place didnt even know about this directive in the first place.

cheers

Directive from who?

The only statutory requirements for testing that I can think of would come under service intervals recommended for high pressure pipelines under the Pressure Systems Regulations as CO2 trolleys are not covered specifically by BS5306-8 and their manufacture falls outside the scope of EN3 as they are not hand portable and BS EN 1866-2005 for mobile extinguishers only covers Water, Foam & Powder.

Without further info I would normally replace or test the hose and lance as part of the 10 year overhaul & pressure test of the cylinder

The Lance is to be sent away every year, a replacement fitted. i was just asking if there was a time limit on how long the lance could be kept from its refirbushment date. cheers though
