Vehicle evacuation
« on: December 01, 2010, 08:26:51 AM »
Has anyone come across any specific UK guidance on the emergency evacuation of buses and /or patient transport vehicles?  There is quite a bit in variouis states of the US, mostly relating to school buses, but I've not found anything in the UK.

No help yet Ruby?
Are you looking at practical evacuation or provision of means of escape?

Hi Ruby

Have a chat with the Department of Transport.

I'm sure they used to produce a small booklet about fire safety in PSVs (buses) and the like.

They may have provisions / guidance to cover the new breed of yellow school buses you see around the UK operated by councils

A long shot, but nevertheless worth a try!

With regard to PCV's and ambulances, there is legislation in the former and a manufacturing standard (that is as good as law as compliance is a requirement of the industry) that touch on escape.

This is why you see a minimum of two doors for escape, escape windows, extinguishers, etc.

BS EN 1789 covers ambulances, both standard Patient Transport & Emergency

Thanks to all for your input.
I’m looking at all aspects of Bus/patient transport, from fire safety standards for vehicle design, internal linings and upholstery, through to fire statistics  and driver and crew training.
