Ze Germans
« on: December 07, 2010, 09:32:29 AM »
Morning Guys

Can anyone enlighten me on what the regs are like in Germany?

Are they on a risk assessed law similar to ours? Where did this come about from? Was it the Framework directive that bought it in?

Any history/knowledge on German fire law would be much appreciated, even if its just pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks guys

As Gemany is a EU country they should have similar, the old Workplace Regulations originated as European regulations.

EU law brought in the workplace and framework directives and as such risk assessed law should apply.

Fantastic Joka much appreciated that is exactly the answer I wanted.

I wonder why they don't accept EN products and insist on DIBT then?!

They should accept CE marked products, if they dont they are probably in breach of the CPD.

You will find it exceedingly hard to sell into Germany - whether products or services.   Their regulations are very prescriptive - they don't seem to understand the concept of risk assessment.   Where you find "you must do this, that and the other" in ENs it's almost odds-on that it has come from Germany.

They are very unwilling to give up DIBT and U-mark and will find every conceivable excuse not to accept products from abroad - like - "we can't accept these - we don't know the manufacturer - we haven't visited and approved his factory....."

I've just spent two days in Dusseldorf writing a European Standard and some of the view from German colleagues around the table took my breath away.   I should be used to it by now...... but I'm not.

Distract them with pool loungers & towels.

It is frustrating how 'zey' push forward rules & regs & legs, but often still go their own way...

Thank you for all of your comments and support.

It seems this in not an uncommon situation.

We are however making some headway.

I used to serve in the German fire service and one thing that became apparent to me was that the legislation is different from one German state to another.  Its almost as if every county has a different set of laws.  Good luck with your challenge

You have to remember that the UK will embrace whatever comes out of the EC and will set up departments and agencies to ensure that everyone complies regardless of the consequences.
The others member states only do it if they want and even then.....................
We're not Brazil we're Northern Ireland.

Piggie, I can see the scene now.  Tomaz and Herr Purzey, welkom to unser country.  Turgard??? Was ist Turgard, You will not sell dieses krap in dieses country.  We like ander products.  Another schnaps perhaps.

Auntie Lin, you told me that, with the possible exception of Davey, I am the only man who you have found breathtaking.
