I do not believe I have at any time suggested that all persons should be trained in the use of fire fighting equipment, I am just saying that staff should not be precluded from training opportunities just on the basis that they are part time.

It would appear by your response that this line is adopted by the F&R Service.

It could be argued that they have received less favourable treatment by not being given the same opportunity as their full time equivalent due to the fact that they are part time. As for the advantage of training in many workplaces fire wardens receive an allowance.

Don't think I said that. Read my post again.

Opportunity for what?

As for the advantage of training in many workplaces fire wardens receive an allowance.

Is this the case in your situation?

Not all firefighters have to do it, regardless of their employment status, because the F&R Services see no reason and it doesn't make sense, to train everybody because not everybody has to know. Only those chosen few, part time and full time.

I perhaps assumed wrongly that this meant that persons were trained and this was regardless of whether they were part time or full time.

Training

No this is hypothetical.

Company policy states there should be four fire wardens, four employees volunteer, three volunteers are full time and one is a part time employee. The three full time fire warden are given training and the part time fire warden is not due to the fact that they are part time.

Getting back to the original enquiry

My response is that all the part time employees should be given training if the policy of the employer is that all employees are trained. To train all full time employees and to exclude all part time employees would in my view be a contravention of this piece of legislation.

If you are a fire warden you must receive appropriate training commensurate with your roles & responsibilities regardless of being F/T or P/T.

So if as you suggest your issue is that the three wardens who are F/T have received what the employer deems suitable training, but the warden who is part time hasn't just because they are P/T and not because their role is less then you have a point and the employer is at fault.
