Fire Risk App
« on: December 04, 2012, 08:52:57 AM »
I am looking in to developing a “Fire Risk App” for the I pad and I pad mini.  I don’t want to go in to too much detail here but it would be designed for the following applications:

• Simple fire risk assessments and specific building types, the App would be designed to meet an individual or companies specific question sets, logos etc.
• Extinguisher check list for service engineers on site.
• Applications for fire alarm and emergency lighting maintenance engineers.

There may be a possibility for individuals/companies to be part of a trial programme. If you think this would be of interest and would like more details then please inbox me. Or if you have comments then please post on the forum.

Thanks

Hi William, its already been done and there are plenty of free templates to go with the Iauditor App and amending or writing a new template is quite easy. It provides a wonderful report although in common with other tick box type systems it is of limited value to the  end user as if the assessor isn't competent its "GIGO" - it does look the part though! I've tried the system and written a template however am now back to the notebook and pencil as I've found that concentrating on the assessment is more important than concentrating on the recording methodology.

I do see a use for the system for company personnel such as housing officers or building managers to carry out regular tests/interim audits to ensure that all of the information required is actually reviewed and accurately recorded (time stamped) - i.e. its better than the sheet in the folder/on the wall can be signed off without any checks on the premises. One of last weeks FRAs had a sheet of this years EL monthly tests in the folder - same pen, same signature every month and its difficult to argue against but with the Ipad you can get a time when the report was made and if you include start and finish time you'll get an idea of how long it takes.

Thanks Golden, I am well aware of the I Auditor app and have used it but it has limited value.  I'm looking at something a bit deeper than this as a joint venture with an app development company but for obvious reason I don't want to say too much here.  I can provide much more detail on e mail if you are interested.

Hi William, no thanks I think I'll stick with the pencil and paper as for my purposes I don't really see any benefit in using a tablet. I also think that making it 'deeper' may put off the uninitiated - its really not something I'd want to invest a lot of time in developing but good luck on your initiative.
